Today, we woke up at 4:30 a.m. to take our family, who had been visiting us, to the airport.
I hate when they leave.
Family has such a strong meaning in my Brazilian culture. Having family around brings back that wonderful sense of a “village”—brothers and sisters together, filling our days with love, laughter, hugs, long walks, good food, and stories and memories from the past.
Life feels fuller!!
When it is time to say goodbye, it always leaves us wanting just a little more.
More time, more laughter, more of those ordinary moments that somehow become the ones we treasure the most.
As we walked back to the car after saying goodbye, my husband looked at me and said:
“Ready for the new chapter? Back to routine, work, school, extra activities...”
Oh boy! Just like that, reality! Summer holidays are coming to an end.
Next week, school begins again. Work, lunches, alarms, appointments, after-school activities, driving here, driving there... our calendars will slowly start filling up again.
While driving back home, I started thinking about September and all those busy schedules that are about to begin again.
I already miss those summer mornings when I could slow down, sit in my garden with my coffee, watch the birds, and simply think about life.
My “Me Time!”
So, here I am now, sitting at my dining table with my coffee and reflecting on September... (Yes, the dining table. It is already too cold for me out there—I am Brazilian, remember? 😉).
As I look through the window, I realize that it is not only my routine that is changing.
The mornings are getting cooler. The days are becoming shorter. Soon, the leaves will begin changing colours.
September has arrived, bringing with it the first signs of a new season.
There is something interesting about this time of year.
While our lives are getting ready to speed up again, nature seems to be doing exactly the opposite. It is slowly settling into a quieter rhythm.
Nature does not rush or resist the change.
It simply moves with it.
Maybe there is a lesson there for us too.
Balance.
Knowing when it is time to move, but also remembering when it is time to slow down.
It makes me wonder...
What if we entered this new season a little differently too?
Every September, I fill up our calendar with work and Reiki Room’s schedules, after-school activities, appointments, meetings...
I organize everything so carefully, trying to make all the pieces work together like a big machine with all its gears moving at exactly the right time. Life gets so busy that just thinking about it sometimes takes my breath away...
Maybe we do not need to become superheroes, trying to do it all.
Maybe we can stop to breathe, listen to our bodies, and pay attention to what our hearts are asking us to do.
Maybe this September could be the month we intentionally put our “Me Time!” on the calendar too.
Time for a quiet cup of coffee, a walk outside, a nice bath without rushing, meeting friends and laughing, sitting in silence, receiving a Reiki or Reflexology session, signing up for that class you have really wanted to try...
Whatever helps us pause, breathe, and reconnect with ourselves.
Not because something is wrong.
Not because we have reached our limit.
Simply because We Deserve a Place on Our Own Calendar!
Perhaps that is one of the things nature can teach us as fall approaches.
There is a time to grow.
A time to bloom.
A time to move.
And also...
A time to slow down.
So, welcome September!
A new season. A new routine. A new chapter.
Maybe we cannot make the calendar less busy.
But this time, we can make sure there is a little space in it for us too.
